question on passing Surround sound through amp...

Thread Starter

I just picked up a Bellari HA540 and AKG 702K primarily for gaming...

my question is how can i get surround sound from a mix amp or sound card passed through the Bellari unaltered.

I am looking at the Astro mixamp and a couple creative sound cards.

-If i use the mixamp i can use the optical out on my computer to the mix amp.  but then if i go from 1/8 to rca...or 1/8 to 1/8 to the bellari will i lose the surround effects?

-if i go the Titanium HD route and use the RCA out on the card that will not output surround will it?  I think you have to use the optical out to get surround.

If anyone could point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated

For an actual 5.1 surround experience, you'll need something that offers 5.1 decoding and a sufficient amount of speakers. Anything less will just be "simulated surround" sound.

i know it will only be "simulated"...i just need to make sure i dont lose the "simulation" through my connections...i am not a big fan of the actual 5.1 head sets...

1/8 analog out from the mixamp to an amp won't make you lose the surround effect.

Titanium HD is likely a no-go in this case as the only way to use headphone surround is via its opamp-amped headphone out port, which will result in double-amping if you connect to the Bellari.
