Microphone problems - please help

Hey forum,

I have no idea what's going on, but every time I use my mic, my computer makes it sound like it's extremely sped up (whether it be on skype, windows sound recorder, even an online sound recorder). I tried changing mics, but the problem still persists. I am currently using a C-Media PCI audio card, and my current guess is that there's something wrong with it, but before changing it I decided to consult with you guys. So, any suggestions what might be wrong with my computer?

Hi There Telecoppe I would suggest you post more information e.g. What operating system, what mic eg headphone or desk mic etc for people to provide assistance. Also are you using the mic in game or just Skype? Also is mic in a front panel or directly connected to sound card?

Check the sampling rate in the O/S control panel sound device page (properties). Sometimes sample rate (changed from default for the device which is mic) can speed things up. It's an odd issue for sure.

@mrtim6

i'm working on a windows 7 OS. like i said, i'm pretty sure that the issue isn't with the mic because i tried two different mics (one mic in my cam - a4tech and one desktop mic) and the issue was the same. i've tried using the mic both in game and in skype, the issue persists. it's directly connected to the sound card, don't have a front panel.

@Peete

checking the sampling rate was one of the first things i tried, no result :/
