Just curious, but were are you seeing a V6 for around $40? If it's eBay then be cautious, there's a very good chance of it being a fake (the V6 is one of the most widely counterfeited headphones). $65-$70 seems to be the going rate online for a new pair of V6s.

I like the V6. It's still a good headphone in its price range.

CFabian is right about the prevalence of counterfeits. I would be hesitant to buy from anyone who isn't an authorized Sony dealer.

V6 are great at $60, $40 is fake, probably sold off of Ebay

they are flat sounding, great for producing and gaming, but not if you want to listen to music for a long time. You'll find that you can forget them. I use mine for Rap and Gaming

Buy only from a dealer. Amazon is where I got mine.

If you need them for studio work, and you don't have any wiggle room on the $40 price, you might want to look at the Audio-Technical ATH-M30. There may be better, cheaper options if you don't need a closed monitor--the KSC75 for example. But if you can find a real V6 for $40, go for it.

You might consider the Superlux HD 668 & 681 also. They are quite good at their price.

SHR-240 wouldn't be that bad too

Have fun trying to find them

The closest official seller is in China, give it 2 months shipping you might like them when you get them

There are some of them on Amazon and also Thomann got them.

It depends where he is located but they are not that hard to be found. Also, I don't think that they are any fake of those anywhere (but who knows...)

I am a fellow Boingomaniac and I recommend the PortaPro's $35 lifetime warranty in the USA, don't forget to pick up a PA2V2 to juice them ($60)

PortaPros don't need an amp.

Or is my Clip+ overpowering?

Either way, the Sony V6 actually needs a amp, just a bit though.

For full stimulation.... I can get my PortaPros to hit similar to ultrasones with an amp

I'm getting my second pair of V6 from B&H. They are currently $64.95 + free shipping in the US.

I have the V6 and I am kind of fond of them. Funny thing is anytime I put them on, on the back of my mind I am awaiting for some horrible high pitch from Diana Krall but it does not happen in my system.

Nice cans for the price, They are on the bright side but not offensive. For my hairy head, comfort issue is zip, none, nada.

Since the OP didn't mention where he/she purchased the Sony MDR-V6s, I'd like to mention that, on occasions, sonystyle.com's outlet has refurbished MDR-V6s for $40.00.  I got a pair of these refurbished MDR-V6s (w/ free shipping) last year, and they certainly look and feel new with the exception of a "Refurnbished" sticker at the top of the headband.  Came with the pouch and the screw-on headphone jack adaptor as well.  They sound great to my ears.
