This will often be the case but not necessarily. Hip Hop is a wide ranging genre with many tiny pockets, with much listening you are sure to find your niche. Pandora would be a fine start if you have some artists in mind that intrigue you. The music itself typically relies on a repetitive form of looping and sampling, which refuses to bore the ear when done well. Also keep in mind the genre tends to hold a fair load of garbage, so consider sifting and digging mandatory. No easy exploration, but will surely reward.
