Nice - 20 posts and you are wading into an ancient religious war ;)
Personally, I like asynch USB better than any Toslink connection I have heard, but in many cases its highly likely that you wont even be able to tell much difference.

Stereophile measured the DacMagic and noted that the USB was fairly prone to jitter over other methods available (toslink and spdif). You probably won't hear a difference either way though . . .

For me usb was better than optical from onboard.
