Corrosion on end of Neutrik cable on my Pro 900

Like the thread title says, there is some corrosion on the end of the headphone jack of my Pro 900 Neutrik cable. I don't quite know if it is corrosion. It's like the gold plating is kind of scratched off or something. If I run my finger nail along it I can feel where the gold plating is and where it seemingly has come off. How could this happen? Should I be concerned? If it doesn't really matter then whatever.

I have a feeling it's wear and tear from pulling the plug in and out or jamming it in. Bah

Oh okay! :) No big deal then. I didn't mean to come off like a jerk or anything. I just never want any conflict and if there is any I always like to resolve it ASAP. beerchug.gif

It was just that a pic maybe help to understand the kind of the standard Neutrik plug..

Yeah! I will get that to the thread ASAP. It turns out it isn't the plug end. It's actually the end that screws into the headphones. *Stupid moment*

Ahhh.. Now it is getting more interesting :) .. Have you unplugged it often? There would also be the chance greater to get corrosion IMO..

The gold is just the protective layer, gold won't oxide but the brass under it probley will, just treat it with some de-oxit, i use this http://www.bluehorizonideas.com/cleanit.html since it was specially made for audio/video contacts , but any de-oxit should be fine.

Ahhhh okie dokie. Thanks guys. Is this an urgent matter?

Nope! Not at all honestly until you start hearing any sort of noise when you twist the plug around. It's mainly just for connectivity. Gold plated plugs are just a bit thicker and fit more flush I think. Just enjoy the music! :)
