Little Dot I+ 1+ questions

Hello all!

Let me take a moment to introduce myself. My name is Paul, and I'm a US Marine who's stationed in SoCal, working on the aviation side of the Marine Corps (specifically the V-22 osprey, in case anyone was curious). I would also like to state that my Fiancee holds a BA in International Business, and is very tight with money, so she hates all of you and this forum in advance for what you'll probably do to my wallet.

My introduction to the audio community came when I decided to step up from my BOSE IEMs to used Beyer DT770's that I bought second hand, and since then I've been content with my Xtremegamer soundcard and said headphones. A couple of weeks ago, I decided I needed a new set of cans, and after extensive research based on my music preferences (and a ton of threads here on Head-Fi), I settled on the Denon AH-D2000 headphones.

As a side note, after about 10 pages of D2000 threads from Head-Fi, I've already pulled the trigger on the Jmoney pads and they should be on their way as well. :)   I've also put about 9 hours of reading into the Markl mods for these headphones, and figure if I can repair pilot and aircrew helmets for a 90 million $ aircraft, I should be able to handle some dynamat mods.

Of course, being the compulsive "Things can always be better" type that I am (and with my energy focused towards hi-fi headphones), I started pouring over the threads that Head-Fi had to offer. I had no idea what a DAC was, or what an Amp did, until I recently invested about 100 hours worth of the search function on this forum. The result of which was the common opinion that my headphones I'd ordered need an amp to sound their best, one that can deal with their low impedance. The wallet breaks open again.

Well tonight I pulled the trigger on a Little Dot I+ 1+ amp, which if my understanding is correct, is a hybrid amp that can offer the power that the D2000's need while still giving that old-school, warm feeling that tube amps provide. A lot of folks say that this amp really puts out at it's price point, which is the most important thing to me as I expect to upgrade later on given the reputation of this forum.

On to the point where I ask for guidance-

I already purchased a burr brown 2107 OPA off of Ebay, which for 6 dollars shipped seems reasonable for my first tweaking project. I'm sure that there are other OPAs that the good folks on here might suggest that compliment the D2000's?

I've also read that the Sylvania gold 408A tubes really compliment both the amp and the D2000's, but I've had a hell of a time finding a place I can purchase them. Any links/suggestions would be much appreciated, along with any other tubes that people might suggest for this combination.

My final question would be, are there any other links/upgrades/suggestions people might have for either the D2000's or the Little Dot I+? I'm still relatively new to the Head-Fi community, along with the Hi-Fi community in general. Any good reads, or discussions/tips/ideas that people have are always appreciated.

Let me thank you all in advance, and I can't wait to get to know the community better.

Best Regards,
Paul

Hey man, I recommend the LM4562/LME49720 opamp for your denons, because they would sound neutral and airy (from what I've heard) compared to the more bassy and laid back opa2107. This would balance out the sound for your dark sounding denons. I'll be receiving my own little dot 1+ soon and I'll post my impressions on the thread link above.

Cheers, Marine

I have the I+ also, just a pair of undigged gem, the OPA606LM, which can let your amp sings!!!

PS i'm now trying to get the MUSE02, this seems v. popular in Asia region. Anyone tried this???

Thank you to everyone for the comments/suggestions. It looks like I'll be spending more on tubes and OPAs than I had originally planned for this month. =P

My next question is related to my search for a DAC, as I've decided that a better sound card isn't what I'm looking for because I want the option of using the setup beyond my computer desk. Once again, I've literally spent hours on the search function. After my search perimeters lead me to my original thread here, I decided it was finally time to pose this question to the community.

A good DAC for Little Dot I+ / D2000's, around or under 200$, any and all suggestions appreciated.

Best Regards,
Paul
