Head fi could also be about detachable heads

Thread Starter

Say in the future, there were robots with detachable heads for different purposes and we can choose which ones to buy. In that case, finding a replacement after market head for the robot can also be another form of head-fi in the future. But I'm thinking sometime in the next couple centuries so this idea is most likely irrelevant right now in this era.

You might be on to something here.

How about custom-molded prosthetic ears you can slip over or apply to your real ones so you can shape the frequencies of particular speakers and headphones?

Eyeglasses change light entering your eyes, so why not a prothesis that alters sound coming into your ears?

Maybe a pair of speakers could come with a set of ears you could put on so the sound coming in would be the same to every listener.

Wouldn't account for hearing loss, etc., but it would be an interesting experiment.

@Spareribs:  FIRST, you start a thread about Ramen Noodle Movies that aren't really just about noodles.

NOW, you try to steer us to "RealDoll-Fi"?

Moderators should keep an eye on you...wink_face.gif

On a related note, anyone know if Vulcan HRTF is any good?

Now, see, I like where this guy is going. Really. Think about this.

I detach my head, and put it in front of my monitor... BUT MY BODY IS ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE ROOM.

The feng-shui possibilities are endless!

@burk992...I know you are new, but now you are going to have us spin off on a "should I place the sub-woofer closer to my body or still in proximity to my head" discussion.

And, we would also resurrect the old "some Feng-Shui is very logical" wheat-from-the-chaff type of discussion.

So, EDIT your post, man!

Suggested Alternate Post:  "Should we be focussing on the ability to detach the <entire noggin> or just the antennae"?

Let me try again.

I detach my head, and put it in front of my subwoofer... BUT MY BODY IS ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE ROOM, NEXT TO MY RECEIVER!

The brain damage possibilities are endless!

That is sufficiently vague.  Thanks.

This sort of got me thinking, why haven't they made audiophile capsules yet?  Small enclosures with built in speakers and perfect acoustics.  It would knock out the headache of room treatments speakers require and on the flipside provide the air and full body experience headphones lack.  Of course they wouldn't leak much sound so people who invest in headphones for privacy would find it appealing as well.  They would come in one seater or two seater models.

After they become prevalent, then head-fi can be about robot heads.

Golden ears for everyone.  beerchug.gif

It would be like a dedicated listening room you could slip over your ears.

Really unorthodox, but it would be pretty cool if prosthetic ears were available to equalize headphones.
