Looking for a high-end 75 ohm Coaxial (RCA) cable

Thread Starter

Just looking for suggestions. My budget is <$700.

Make one. Either stick with Canare RCAPs, Eichmann Bullets or WBT NextGen's, very few RCA's have close to ideal 75ohm resistance other than the aforementioned three. Get some good Belden and call it a day.

blue jeans cables.. cheap, quality, nuff said.

Too bad the RCAPs are ugly as hell IMO. I still support the DIY method, make it yourself or get someone (like me, shameless self promotion biggrin.gif) to make one.

I'd give this a try (it's a 60-day mbg). also I'd check the used market ( Audiogon; Videogon; thecableco ...)

I would like to see what connector Antipodes use. Like I said only Canare, Eichmann and WBT have true 75ohm plugs (and they are only true when used with a matching jack), and they don't look like any of them. If you want to pay $330 for a cable that may not actually even have 75 ohm resistance, go ahead. I sure as hell won't pay extra just for snazzy sleeving, some cotton insulated conductor (besides, you can only make the copper core of a coaxial cable so big, so it doesn't even use that much copper to begin with), OCC copper, and custom printed heatshrink.

However, this is a moot point, sorry for going off topic. Try to see if you can use a BNC cable instead of a RCA coax, that way it'll be guaranteed 75 ohm.

Would it be OK to use a RCA-to-BNC adapter?  I know they exist, I have one in my parts box.  Other than that, I have used a lot of different digital cables, from no-name skinny things, to MIT, and they all did well.  Heck, I even have used patch cord.  It all worked.

Yeah they'll work but he's looking for a 75ohm RCA cable which is pretty much non-existent. If he didn't add in the 75ohm requirement, then any cable would work.

I had Chris J at Partsconexion make up a 1m length Furutech Alpha Series (Ag solid silver) BNC cable (using Furutech BNC jacks) for me for just under 150 USD (including termination fee) that is an excellent performer. I highly doubt it can be bettered by anything under 500USD or more. I did compare it directly to a Oyaide DB-510 BNC and preferred the Furutech by a fair margin. It's pretty plain looking with no fancy coverings over the green outer casing. It's quite flexible as well although with any cable that has a solid conductor it's best to avoid sharp angles.

Here is a pic of the finished cable.

The Furutech solution is a good one. Other than unique cables like the Stealth Vardig Sextet, most S/Pdif cables are very similar. VH Audio carries the Neotech NEVD-2001 which is another extremely high quality silver coax design, and it's just $81 for a one meter length. VH also carries most of the high-end RCA connectors (WBT silver next gens would be a very good choice for this application) as well as the Furutech BNC jacks, and they would probably terminate the cable for a fee.

If you want to spend $600+ on a Siltech Classic Anniversary or Stealth Vardig obviously you can, but my suggestion would be to put your money towards better analog ICs and power cords.

You'd be surprised how many BNC connectors used are actually 50 ohm.  In such cases using a cable with a characteristic impedance of 50 ohms will prevent mismatched impedance and yield a better result.  Try experimenting with coaxial cable at 50 ohms.  You might be surprised.

I believe canare make 75 ohm RCA plugs.
