slight hum in wooaudio 5LE right channel

i notice a monotone hum in my right channel when i connect my hd800 to the WA5-le.

i changed all my tubes but it still is there. When i connect my phones to the LOW output it is gone.

It does not change when i try another input and it also does not change when there is nothing connected to the WOO.

is does not go up and down when i change the volume.

when i play some music i don't notice it , but my mind "says" it is there .

is it ok to use the low output with my HD800 ?

thanks guys

It isn't going to hurt anything to use low output with your phones. Do you notice a difference in sound (not the hum) with different output settings? I would contatct Woo Audio on the hum for the channel and let them know what you have done to try and eliminate it.

there is no real difference in sound except volume difference of course.

i think i contact Jack with this. Hopefully he has a simple solution as i don't like to send the amp back from europe.

There are two knobs on each side of your amp, both are located under each of the big handles. Try adjusting those with your fingers, do not turn those knobs more than a half of a turn and do not force the knobs.

ok i will do that.

now that you mention this.

is this associated with the fact that i see that my right driver tube is glowing brighter than the left one ?

Have you tried different power cords or outlets?

hmm.

Definitely contact Jack.

Brighter glowing might be higher voltage on that circuit and that might be bad.

Do not forget to mention this to Jack

I have always had a brighter driver tube too. Good luck. If you are like me it will bug you. I know you want both outputs to be free of hum. I would get a second person to tell you what they think of the hum. The hum may be lower than you think and you are making it seem louder. All tube equipment has a hum. You said you did not hear it with music right? I think you will be better to not try and send it anywhere. Jack may be able to talk with a local tech who could do a light diagnostic and find out the issue if it is truly something. It may be something small.

That's possible but unlikely, see what Jack has to say about your tubes and the glow.

Just make sure you plug your HD-800's into your high imp jack, and adjust the two knobs as I suggested, turning the knobs right or left, set your volume knob at about 12:00 when setting those knobs. You can also try to turn off whatever feeds your WA5LE just to make sure the hum is not coming from there.

The only thing I use my HD-800 is for what you are doing to get rid of the hum.

yes indeed , a very slight adjustment and it was gone. looks like the left and right channel are also more in balance after the adjustment.

Yes the alternators are sensitive and usually adjust in a close range, it would seem you now have your "sweet spot".

I think Jack started to use the adjustable alternators about 15 months ago in the WA5/LE, just before I ordered my WA5LE.
