FLAC to ALAC: Preserving the original files as well?

I know everyone loves dbPoweramp...but from what I understand I can't go from FLAC to ALAC with it without actually converting the files. At least not with the free version.

I want to keep the originals, and copy into ALAC. That seems like the best way to put it.

Is this possible, for free, on Windows. Gotta get my new iPod loaded up for my portable rig.

How about backing up your FLAC files first?

I was so used to having a back up on my external that I never thought...I had a back up on my external...

I don't understand your issue. I'm not challenging you. I just don't understand what you mean. Isn't it still the same? Lossless to lossless = lossless? confused_face_2.gif

Oh! You want to still have the FLAC files with additional ALAC encoded files! D'oh! Stupid moment for me. :P

You could also try XRecode II. It's free (nag screen but no limitations), and converts any lossless format to any other lossless or lossy format without altering the original in any way. It also preserves all tags and artwork. Really great program.

As far as I know, if you use dbPoweramp to convert a file, the original file is preserved.

Yes that's what I remember too, though the last time I used dbpoweramp was a couple of months ago so I could be wrong.

Sure. XRecode also can merge multiple files into a single file with .cue, which is very helpful for portable players that don't support gapless.
