I work for an Auction Company, and I am just the software developer / graphic designer. But today I went up to an estate auction we are doing tomorrow and I was looking through boxes and boxes of stuff to see if I could find any hidden gems. Ohh boy did I find some stuff! The guy who owned the house with everything inside, passed away and the family just wanted to auction off everything. Well this guy happened to have a Hallicrafters SX-130 Tube Ham Radio, and along with the radio he had a bunch of tubes! I mean A LOT of freakin tubes! I only was able to look through them a little bit, but he had all different sizes. Some are still brand new and in the boxes, and others that could possibly be burnt out.
Anyways, here are two crappy cell phone pictures I snapped real quick for you all to see. There was two boxes full so I took a picture of each.
Sadly I have to wait until tomorrow to bid on them, but I have a good feeling that not too many people are going to know the value in these tubes. I was thinking of bidding on the radio too, but im not sure if im going to. He also had some vintage headphones, I didnt catch the brand, but they were definitely from the 60s.
After looking up what kind of tubes the HAM radio takes, I found: Tubes are 6DC6 for RF amp, 6EA8 as mixer oscillator, another 6EA8 for first IF and crystal selector, 6BA6 as second IF, 6AL5 as AM detector/noise limiter, 6BE6 as BFO/ product detector, and 6GW8A as combination audio preamp and output.
I think there was more than just those type of tubes there though. If you guys are wondering, I probably will be selling a lot of the tubes if anyone wants some. Lots and lots of vintage tubes, which from what I understand: The older, the better.
