RCA Cable Question

post #1 of 3
Thread Starter

What is the difference between an RCA cable and a normal cable? I'm trying to split my audio from a headset to split one end to my computer and the other end to my xbox 360. This would allow me to record my audio onto my computer, but also allow me to talk to friends on XBL still.

Is there a difference between an RCA splitter and a normal audio splitter?

Such as this;

Would they work the same and accomplish what I need to? I'd like to use the Red/White cables simply because location. Chinese marketers are the only ones who have the normal ones.

Hi, the difference between the two types of connector is that the RCA has one channel per connector, hence the red and differentiation. The jack plugs have both channels in each plug, hence the two black bands you can see round the metal part of the plug keeping left, right and ground separate.

What your cable end connection and what you want to plug your cable into tells you which type you want to use.

You'd need the second one (assuming you can get 3.5mm outputs on the xbox. The RCA is useless for headphones because headphones are stereo, not mono. Furthermore, that RCA splitter takes one mono signal and splits it into two mono signals, sort of a mono to mono thing.
