Hook up PC to 5.1 surround sound

Ok guys, here is the deal.

 

I just got as a gift from a friend 5.1 DK Digital home theater surround system whatever.

and i want to hook it up to my laptop. I would appreciate if you can explain to me what cable do i need for that and how to do it.

If your notebook includes a S/PDIF or TOSLINK out, use that (if you have a MacBook there are TOSLINK adapters that pipe the MacBook's light source to a conventional socket). If not and if you just have to have surround sound, then you will probably need something like Creative's Sound Blaster X-Fi Surround 5.1 Pro (USB).
