I have an old set of Klipsch Promedia 4.1 computer speakers that have a dead control pod. They have been replaced with a set of 2.1 Klipsch promedia that is starting to show the same symptoms that killed the old set.
I would like to upgrade from my computer's onboard sound, and I started wondering if there is a way to kill two birds. I could buy an external DAC/amp for headphones that could also output to all these speakers I have lying around. The thought being that the volume knob on the control pod is just an amp anyway.
So my questions are
1) How could I connect my speakers with the 2-wire hookups to the RCA-style speaker outputs on an amp? Do I need to go DAC/Amp -> Receiver -> speakers?
2) Could the 2 RCA outputs work with 4 or 5 speakers in surround?
3) Could I independently control the bass level like I can on the Promedia controls? Or would that be in software?
My desk space is limited so I can't go with too much hardware. I also understand that while the speakers have a standard connector, the subwoofer might not, in which case it could be replace with something more standard.
I also do about 75% gaming, 25% music, and 50/50 between headphone and speakers. I've love to hear some suggestions.
