small plug material/brand

in a tight space i jammed in a switchcraft rhodium over nickel plug. in retrospect i could have used a neutrik gold over brass. these both being not the best, would it have made that much of a difference? ie, was the neutrik the better choice? these are 1/4" trs.

thanks

I guessing you mean the barrels of the plugs? If so, they make no difference at all because they do not contribute to the signal in anyway. They are only there to protect the solder joints and make inserting a plug easier (larger surface area).

sorry, i lost this thread. i meant the actual electrical contacts. probably still does not make a huge difference. gold plating on a $17 plug is probably nothing special i would guess. on larger, expensive plugs i'd probably put some thought into what material i chose. i just could not fit it into this particular application. i am not going to do it over anyways so i suppose it is what it is. it works, and given my soldering skills at my age that is a big plus lol.

if you can tell the difference in sound between a gold plug and a rhodium plug, you are a better man than I.
