I'm going to japan this summer and am definitely visiting Yodobashi camera in Akihabara. As some of you might know, they have A LOT of headphones. In order to us my time efficiently, I plan to make a list of must hear/try headphones.

I'm not sure they will have all the models or brands, but this is what I've got:

Sennheiser:

-HD600

-HD650

-HD598

-HD25-1 ii

AKG:

-K601

-Q701

Beyerdynamic:

-DT880

-DT990

-T1

ATH:

-ESW9A

-M50

-ES7

-BB500 (curious about headband)

-ES10

-Pro700 MKII

Denon:

-D2000

-D5000

Hifiman:

-HE-6

Sony:

-XB1000

Any suggestions or missing models/makes?

Anything I can put close to my ears

Anything around me

Anything in a 1 mile radius

Do you understand? I test out any headphone I come across. When I go to BestBuy and Fry's and test headphones. Music shops and all over. TEST EVERY HEADPHONE YOU FIND. NOT ONE ARE THE SAME!!!

LCD2, HD800, D7000 instead of the other 2 Denons.

ath-bb500 seems not very promising to me, reviews on jp amazon has revealed that its weight and low clamping force are causing problem.. and there are many higher end ATHs in A/AD/W/L lineup to pay more attention imo..

oh yeah, sony z1000 definitely worth a listen.

...how can you missed the STAX?

Just compare HE-6, HE-500 & LCD-2.  They'll shame all the dynamic headphones and eventually you'll end up with one of those anyways.

I have the D2000 because it the only DXXXX that's within my price range. D5000 is just for the sake of comparing to the 2000.

Exactly... For some people, they may never get a chance to audition Stax for years =P   I only got the chance because n3rdling brought his sweet electrostats to an SF meet and I think he was the only one that did.

Bring Stax into #1 priority emergency mode.

I'm not sure, but do they sell Audeze in japan? I'll add them for future reference anyways, but the list I had compiled generally consisted of HP's in my price range, so I missed quite a bit of the high-end models.

HOW CAN I MISSED THE STAX?!  I'm sorry, I don't mean to be a grammar nazi, or bash you, but that sentence made me laugh. Should be a catchphrase for Stax from now on. I know i'll be thinking of this when I see them.

I would love to hear a pair of LCD-2's to see if the whole ortho thing is for me.  I thought buying HD650's would help tame my desire for new headphones and turn it more to building more amps and DAC's.  Nope, I just want HD800's, T1's, and LCD-2's now...

I think you should definitely add the D7000 on there instead of the D5000 though.  Also HiFiMan HE-500 to see how much difference between the 6 and the 500.

"Must Hear" has nothing to do with budget, the D7K is the king of swing in the Denon line.

=.=   ...              You're going to find Japan hilarious

I wouldn't waste time with the ATH-BB500. Take advantage of Akiba's selection to sample the BEST headphones, not something like that which hasn't even shown up on anyone's radar.

An Audio Technica you should listen to is the ESW10! Then you can compare it against the ESW9.

Why are you trying out so many Beyers and Senns? Are they unavailable for auditioning in Calgary?

I have yet to find Beyers anywhere in-store, I've only had the opportunity to test the HD600 once and the HD595 I found on display was unusable( I forgot why.)

Audio-technica models are very limited is what I've found, finding only the lower-end models for "public" listening.

Maybe I just suck at finding stores? :P
