vancouver hockey riot

so i know there are hockey fans on here so here it goes. vancouver lost with 0 goals to 4 goals for the boston bruins. vancouver fans responded by rioting and destroying stores, cars, etc. i cannot fathom why people would do this. its just a game right?

let me cut to the chase. i ordered a fiio e7 from headphone bar in vancouver which is near downtown. it is infact on 245 west broadway. what is the chance headphone bar has been looted or destroyed? and if it has have i lost my money and fiio e7?

feel free to discuss what ever you like about this tragedy. this truly doesn't make me proud to be canadian. and if you know an answer to my question that would be great if you could tell me but that is not a priority. lets talk about this current event currently occurring not to far from me. only a 5 hour drive away.

I hate sports-related riots. This is why I was glad the Lakers lost. Every time they win a championship, downtown LA gets torn up. Disgusting.

Teams are just corporations. They don't care about the average fan. They only exist to make money. Nothing to riot over.

This was no tragedy, it was just a bunch of retarded braindead assholes looking for an excuse to break things and steal crap.  It just boggles the mind how stupid and idiotic people can be.

Not to mention many of them are actually posting images of themselves on facebook and bragging that they stole stuff or torched a car.  Seriously?

Would have been even closer to me had I been home at the time...

The ironic part, though, is that I saw a news article posted right before this happened reassuring people that this exact thing wouldn't happen.  The guy in charge of security said that they had set up a system for the olympics to counter riots, and that he is confident that people have changed since the riot in '94 occurring over the exact same circumstances.

Clearly he was wrong.

Oh, also, what's the name of this headphone store in vancouver?  I might want to check it out next time I'm there.  Also, you wouldn't have wasted money either way, they probably have insurance that could pay for at least some of the damage/stolen goods.

Not actually because of the game.

The tension and energy was there probably for a long time and the game was just the catalyst that sparked the flame.

Uh?  The same thing happened in 1994 when the Canucks lost in the finals of the Stanley Cup.  It was because of the game, no doubt about it.  The tension and energy was caused by the game, the pressure coming up to it and all of the hype surrounding it.

The game was the direct cause of this, not simply the catalyst.

Interesting.

Usually you see this type of energy with the fans in soccer matches.  Oh well, whats done is done.

Damn, I really hope the headphone bar wasn't torn apart. I was looking to buy a uDac-2 and E11 from them, they're the only place that has a really reasonable price for Canadians.

I dunno.  What I find the most interesting, though, is the group psychology going on here.  I'm sure that not every single person involved in the riot is a completely braindead retard douchebag, but they all just get sucked into following the crowd.  I mean, the things they did were awful.  They torched two police cars, looted a department store and beat up a vigilante trying to stop people from entering the store.  While obviously some of these people are pretty awful people and instigated the whole thing, the rest of them just followed along.

Dunno about you, but I find this all immensely interesting, even if I am rather appalled and disgusted at this whole thing.

I was at the headphonebar a little while ago and it is located in an area that wasn't affected by the riots. It was the downtown core that got messed up. Strange thing was that before the game, I said to my co-workers that if the canucks lost the game there would be a riot.

Mob mentality is pretty interesting to see it in action.  Especially because it also affects the seemingly or normally intelligent individual as well. Here in the US mob mentality was rampant fueled by blind patriotism and hate.  Did I say was.....

Anyways, clean up crews will get some overtime, hospitals may get a little extra overtime to treat the wounded and everything will return to normal.

Americans riot whether we win or lose.  sad to see vancouver having this issue.  its a truly beautiful place.

The riot was away from the headphone bar on Broadway and it was across a bridge that was shutdown. I was downtown at 2pm and people were giving strangers high fives, a happy but excited crowd. A few hours later tear gas and riot police are  in the exact same spot. People say that Vancouver is a beautiful city, but they ignore the ugly side. That's what we saw last night. Ugly.

Bored empty children acting out against a society that has spoiled them roten.  They had no fear of consequences of their actions.

How meaningless and pitiful their young lives must be. All of that BS for what?

isn't it obvious? it was planned from the start. even if vancouver won i think there would still be rioting or something similar. face it these people were just waiting for an excuse to riot.

I don't think a riot would have happened if Vancouver won. It would have been more of a street celebration and party.  There would have been a few fights here and there but that's normal when you get a bunch of drunk people in a large gathering.

Yeah, I doubt that there would have been a riot like this if they won.  People were just pissed off that the Canucks lost the cup the first time they got into the finals since 1994 (when they rioted too because they also lost...).

There would probably have been a lot of random, isolated incidents and a few arrests, but nothing to this scale.
