I am a little confused about the SRM-323 - joynetmall.com has the models SRM-323A and SRM-323S, but other than a small difference in price, is there anything that separates the two? I

A very all-round headphone for me. Just the right one to take on the go or on holiday. Also as a DJ, nice noice isolation. Very durable so you don't have to wonder if it will break if you throw...

This quick review is done after a few hours of listening. I bought them from B&H for the decent sum of 150$. If you've done your research you'll find out that Ultrasone HPs are known for their...

I auditioned the SRH-1840 straight out of the box, and was unsatisfied with the sound, so I decided to give them a period of break-in. Recent scientific studies have shown definite differences...

I didn't think of TEAC when I began searching for a dedicated CD player. My initial short list included Denon, Cambridge, Marantz, Onkyo. The Teac intrigued me, so I went for it. It is very...

"The emitter-follower circuit with high-voltage bipolar transistors adopted for the output stage of the SRM-323S enabled low output impedance resulting in increased drivability and wide high-frequency dynamic range. Moreover, the power transformer equal to that of the SRM-006tS has been adopted to achieve more powerful drive ability."
So yes the S is a further refinement with higher gain -> go for that one.

How big of a step up would the 323s be from my srm-1 / mrk-2? Is it also smaller?

I had a new 323S and srm-1 mk2 pp. My srm-1 was modded by spritzer to work in the balanced mode so it may be different from the normal srm-1.
I have not yet done extensive comparison. Just by quick impression, the 323S has better bass attack and at the same time warmer tonality. The srm-1 has slightly leaner SQ but does not become thin at all. SRM-1 also set the soundstage farther, which is apparent when listen to vocal. But I suspect this has to do with the balanced input.
I was quite happy with both of them and for different mood. When I like more worth, I used 323S. When I want more analytical sound, I use srm-1.
And I plan to further upgrade the srm-1 parts to see if the bass attach can be improved.

I'm also using the 323S thanks to Padam & Spritzer's recommendation. It is a fine sounding amp and work nicely with the OII. It isn't perfect but for the price it is very difficult to beat. Which headphones do you plan to use with the 323S?
