New Nordost Cables : Valkyrja and more

Press release :

"Nordost is pleased to announce the release of the newest member to the micro mono-filament cable family! The Valkyrja has a lavender mono-filament wrapped around each individual conductor yielding the nearly the same performance as its predecessor, the Valhalla at a fraction of the cost. Through extensive redesigning techniques, Nordost has been able at long last to create a series of cables quite comparable to the Valhalla, while keeping the costs at a minimum."

Also new powercords and video cables :

"International CES 2004
Nordost will be exibiting in Las Vegas The Alexis Park Hotel Booth numbers AP 1604 and 1605 from January 8th to 11th. Lars Kristensen will be on hand to demonstrate the new line of Nordost power cords. That is SHIVA, VISHNU and VALHALLA.

Nordost will also debut its new SILVER SCREEN HD line of high performance video cable."

"From left to right are the Valhalla ($2500), Vishnu ($600), and Shiva ($300). All show the unique geometries and construction details for which Nordost is known."

Misleading...

yielding the nearly the same performance as its predecessor, the Valhalla at a fraction of the cost
And that fraction seems to be something of the order of 3/4, before anyone gets too excited.

Kr...

Where can I find prices for Nordost interconnects?
I am looking to buy a pair of them in the $150-200.00 range.
But, on their website, they only list the models, not prices.

Thanks in advance,

They retail for the following

Black Knight $80 1m
Solar Wind $120 1m
Red Dawn $400 1m
SPM $900 1m
Quarttro Fil $1200 1m
Valkyrja $2000 1m
Vahalla $3300 1m

However, you can find them for much, much cheaper if you are a smart shopper.

Thanks for the info, KR...

The thing that interested me the most was how flat they are.
Are these cables known for being neutral or colored?
And, do they sell any good digital cables in the flat design?

They are known for being neutral and detailed, they are not warm if that's what you are asking.

They have digital cables, but they are not flat.

Here is a white paper on how it all works about their Flatline Cable cable :

Im exploring an apparent Nordost backlash on the part of reviewers who having had their Valhallas in place for more than a year are starting to question the "transparency".

They are wondering aloud about Nordost Valhalla's "FALSE TRANSPARENCY". Some much lesser priced cables are very close or better than Valhalla. Im still digging into this.

BangPod. With your budget, your best bet is the Blue Heavens if you want Nordost.

Everyone seems to have forgot the Eldorado. I think it was TAS that said "Nordost will be releasing their first powercable" which is not true.

Eyeteeth. How can their transparency be false? Amateurs might confuse transparency with brightness but a lot of experienced listeners and "Golden Ears" use the Vahallas as a reference. More important for me anyways, I have tried them out in my system and have heard them in other systems and find them to be awesome.

I heard them as well, and they really are amazing. I have seen them for sale for less than $1000 used. Buying used cables is the way to go if you want to go high end. I have also seen Red Dawn for $250 and under! So please look around before buying new, unless you are rich and don't care

Valhalla is a lovely cable.
But in my systems, they took life out of the music and never worked right unless a system has a warmish slant.

Thanks for the info all.

I will be looking for a pair of Blue Heaven's on Audiogon.

I have been researching alot of cable designs recently.

While the Valhalla is still a reference cable for reviewers, it is showing its age. The construction, for instance, really is not that revolutionary anymore. Many newer cables produced using newer construtiion techniques rival the Valhallas at 1/3 the price.

This is Nordost's interpretation of transparency. The accusation by some who have had Valhallas as their reference is that Valhallas slightly "overemphasize image edges".

I'll never be able to afford these cables and if it turns out the emperor has no clothes, or in this case more colorful clothes than previously thought, it'll be just another example of audio lunacy.

I think cables more than other components (cables as components?) change directions/philosophies/technologies and produce more 'giant-killers' from 'new kids on the block'.

I've got the Solar Wind cables.
I like them, but I have never heard anything farther up the food chain than these.
I got mine from HCM Audio at a good price because they were in older packaging. I can't remember what I paid for them though.
