Is it true that the only difference between a 5755 tube and a 12ax7 tube is that the pins are in different places ... ?

I am thinking about getting a socket converter and trying out some 5755s in my Ming Da MC84-C07 ... but I love my little Ming Da and don't want to give it a headache or worse ! I really don't want to fry it !
