88.2 kHz through the HRT Music Streamer II and II+

Thread Starter

88.2 kHz playback through the Music Streamer II/II+ constantly skips/pops when using WASAPI but not KS.  Is this an issue with the Streamers, or is it a computer-related issue? I don't have another DAC that can play 88.2 kHz files to test this, but this does happen on different computers running different versions of Windows (XP, Vista, and 7).

Thanks for any input.

setup: realtek ACxxx onboard soundcard-> optical input of DAC audio-gd NFb2

worse my drivers seem to have problems playing 88.2 kHz files.

After re-sampling with foobaar to 96 kHz it works.....

seems to be driver issue I think

I have the MS II and find it's quite stable at all supported rates (including 88.2). In my pursuit of stable, quality computer source playback - I've found that virtually everything in the chain can have an impact. For instance, my MS II with my system plays 88.2 in a pristine fashion. But - I get 'snap, crackle and pop' with 44.1; until I turn on in memory caching in my player. Using optical, I get random noise with one player (with no drops), and with another I get smooth play, but the chance of drops. My MacPro is loaded with cards (which I sure is part of my problem - lots of noise).

Back to your question; I don't think there's anything wrong with MS II at 88.2. It's fairly solid at all supported resolutions. Now everything else... blink.gif

WASAPI is often pretty sensitive to buffer size.
You might try to adjust buffer size in your media player.
