Airy sound doesn't make cans any less engaging imo. Metal is as engaging on my HE500 as it is on my D7000.

Keep in mind that the SR-60 can be modded with little monetary investment to tame the shrillness.  By venting the driver and dampening you can get a lot tighter and more emphasized bass.  This lets you turn down the volume thus lowering the volume of those terrifying trebles. There's tones you can do with the SR60 because of its simple design,  Look into it here, it does wonders:
