Vocals seem louder on my left ear - Page 2

I kinda regularly have the same problem, it's really annoying when you aren't sure if it's real or just your imagination eh? ahhaahah

It turns out I just had to give my ears a good cleaning, but it did take a couple of days until the vocals were bang on in the center again.

I've found that adjusting the balance when I had that problem made things sound a little wonky, the vocals will be centered but hazy, and one whole side's instruments will sound over emphasized, it drove me nuts.

Well, according to my ear specialist my left ear’s auditory canal has an uncommon curvature. Although I never liked the idea of adding an equalizer to a good audio chain, I think I had no other choice.

On eBay I found a perfectly working, vintage Sansui SE-7 graphic equalizer. It allows me to compensate for the loss of higher frequencies above 1 kHz in my left ear. The right channel is passed unaltered through the equalizer.

If I only had decided to add such a device to my audio chain much earlier! It has changed my perception of music in a very satisfying and pleasant way.

Yes, thanks God! However, in case you decide to take the same route as I did, I have the impression you should hurry. Good stand-alone equalizers are not anymore easily found in stores or online shops.

A note to my setup: Normally the laptop isn’t placed as shown in the picture. There’s an Airport Express located below the coffee table which I use to stream music wirelessly to the DAC. If you need a stand alone equalizer, I know a guy who has one and doesn't use it anymore, he probably wouldn't mind giving it away since its just collecting dust. If your interested, I'll ask him about it.

Interesting question. For those who have noticed the difference, do you know if you are right eye or left eye dominant? Does that correspond or oppose your hearing bias? 

I do hear better with my right ear, but Im pretty certain I damaged my left ear when playing on my high school band, I always faced my left ear to the guitar amp. I guess I have some permanent damage. Its not much but noticeable, more less a -3 to -4 dB diference from the right ear, when it gets lower I go get my ears clean.

I have looked this "laterality" in myself, I happen to have better right side than my left in most of my body, Im right handed so I asume the body gets used to work with one side more than the other.
