Mini to Mini Mod VS Cutting a Shorter Cable

Well, i will most likely buying a pair of Ultrasone HFI-780 Second hand from a head-fi user.

The only problem is the fact that his model is the long 3M cable. I Was thinking instead of cutting the cable shorter and re-soldering, i would remplace the cable by a jack (3.5mm probably) like you see in other kind of headphone:3376_1.jpg

Anyone else tried something similar or wants to share his opinion on the matter?

I'd just shorten the cable, much easier.

I agree and you can always get an extension if you need it longer again

Re-Drilling the hole and fitting a a mini jack shouldnt be a real problem, plus it would make a nice DIY project to any headphone out there, easily interchangeable from when you are on the go or at home.

I Dont really see why people dont see the point of such a mod.

Please share your insights on ther matter.

It's been done often enough, and is an easy mod if you like to change cables (for "sound" reasons or cord length/connector).  The recommendation to simply shorten the cable was for simplicity and your concern of a cable that is too long.  If you're looking for a fun cable project, this does sound like it. :)
