Just came across this at the Amazon reviews. One of the reviewers suggested that if you buy a 64gb SDXC and formatted it as FAT32, you can then use it as a sdhc card since putting a sdxc card on a sdhc only slot will not work. Can anyone confirm this if possible? Will you still have 64 gigs of storage? Imagine a Cowon O2(32gb) or J3(32gb) with 96gb of space

The FAT32 file system only supports formatting a 32GB volume. It would depend on the player if is able to see exFAT, NTFS, or any other file system the supports partition bigger than 32GB.

Wrong. That's a limitation of the formatting tool built into MS Windows Explorer, there are other utilities that can work with FAT32 volumes up to 2TB hard drives.
The problem with going to 64GB is doubling the number of clusters doubles the memory required to store the File Allocation Table. Not a big deal for computers, but portable devices only need to deal with 32GB to be SDHC compliant, so they might not have enough memory for 64GB.
I don't know of any technical reason making it impossible to use a 64GB, but someone will have to try it to find out. Currently, 64GB cards are over $100, so that's a rather pricey experiment.

Sorry to reply so late, but i believe this is no big deal. It has been found that 64gb Microsdxc cards have been formatted to fat32 and then used in many mobile phones.
So to format a 64gb SDXC with fat32 and put in a SDHC slot is gonna work surely.

Read this: http://www.anythingbutipod.com/forum/showpost.php?p=575471&postcount=317
Then read the whole thread if you like. It's got more info on it but for me it's a "TLDR" deal.
PS: Read this as well, info on the Cowon J3/D2+/... with 64gb+ (micro)SDXC card:
