Whats the difference - Sennheiser HD-201 and HD-201S

Hey guys!

I was at the local FYE store today looking at their "fabulous" selection of headphones. I noticed that there were two types of HD-201, a regular and one with an "S" after the 201. Specs are exactly the same on both. I know the ones marked with an S are newer, but other than that I can't tell them apart. Can anyone tell me what the difference is between the ones with an S and the ones without?

Straight cable maybe? That's the difference in M50 models.

I'm pretty sure that the normal ones have a straight cable...not sure what the S model is though.

Was the "201s" on Sennheiser's packaging, or the sticker created and printed out by the store to display their price? If the former, where exactly did it appear? I've never heard of this.

The "S" was printed on the headphones and on the packaging. Dunno, maybe Sennheiser made a small little tweak somewhere to the HD-201 recently? I even went to the Sennheiser website and there is zilch on an S model.

Normally audio manufacturers are all over these "small tweaks" and market the hell out of them.  Then again, Sennheiser seems like they just quietly change things without telling anyone unless you ask...but I've never heard of them changing the name of a product like this before.  Maybe you should just send a email and ask them directly...

Brilliant entry level headphones and £16 with free delivery on Amazon at the moment. I found that whilst googling HD 201 s to see if I could find anything out. But there is nothing.

So far no reply from Sennheiser about the "S" model. I wish I could A/B them with the regular ones.

I've never received a response from directly e-mailing a major headphone manufacturer. You could try the member I listed above. I believe he works there.

Well, I got a response from a user saying that the "S" model is just a US variant sold in a plastic packaging rather than a cardboard box. No difference in the headphones. I actually bought a pair of the HD-201 without the "S" a few days ago. I'm pretty impressed with their sound quality.
