Options- amp/dac for cans and speakers

Hey all,
Could use your help trying to find the right solution for my needs.

Current setup is Logitech z-5500s, Sennheiser 595s & Creative X-Fi Platinum. I'm going to be selling the speakers and sound card, but I'm keeping the 595s. So what I need are 2.0 active monitors and an amp/ dac that will work with both my speakers and cans.

I've been looking at the Maverick Audio TubeMagic D1:
http://www.mav-audio.com/base/product/tube_magic_d1

So if I'm not mistaken this unit should fit my needs if I just use RCA out to the speakers. I'll be going optical out via my mobo to the amp/ dac and then RCA out to the speakers. Maybe I'm wrong, but I'm assuming that will work.

I haven't been able to go out and listen to speakers yet, but the main ones I'd like to hear are KRKs, Behringers, Yamaha, M-Audio, etc. If you had any insight that would be more then welcome. Although the main area I'd like feedback on is the amp/ dac. I don't know much about them and the options, so I'd like to pull off you're knowledge.

Thanks

I'm getting close to ordering the D1, but would still love to know about other options before pulling the trigger. I wasn't able to find an amp/ dac in that price range that had the features I needed, but I'm sure there are others.

Too late, D1 is ordered!

Now I just need to figure out the speakers.

I'm looking for something similar to what you're looking for too. I'll probably buy a NuForce uDac2 soon because it has RCA inputs and a headphone out. As far as I know I can connect my speakers via RCA, and when I plug in my headphones the sound automatically goes there instead of the speakers. It's about $70 cheaper than the TubeMagic.

Yeah sounds like it should work, but I know so little about all this.

Proof of me knowing so little by this following question.

The TubeMagic D1 can only be used with active monitors correct? I pretty sure it doesn't work with passive ones, but that would be nice.

No. The D1 will work with passive speakers. You'll just need to hook the D1 up to an amp, and have the amp drive the passive speakers.

That's where the A1 comes in.

If you WANT opinions, why don't you just read the huge Maverick D1 FAQ and Info thread?

I bought the A1 shortly after. I couldn't resist.
