Thread Starter

I use headphones almost exclusively, Bose mainly, and I'm after something that will play good quality music (FLAC format). When at home I only listen to music from CDs or mini discs unless I'm doing something that won't degrade MP3 sound quality more than it already is - hoovering, in the shower - that kind of thing.

I'm away from home a lot so want something that's easy to keep with me that has good sound quality and is reliable. I don't care about video, this is for music only, that said a good screen does make music selection easier.

I don't care about the latest trend, I prefer longevity and build quality to fashion. I don't want to do Firmware upgrades weekly because the creators can't code properly, if the player is temper-mental I don't want it even if it cooks meals by way of an apology.

Because it's for FLAC at I think at least 16GB storage or it should have a card slot. Battery life: I'd like about 4 hours per day for a long weekend or it should have in-car charging in which case it doesn't matter too much.

I wouldn't claim funds are limitless but I expect value for money, the only appliance I have that starts with an "i" is an iron and would rather that continue. A radio would be nice but I'm not that bothered.

Now with the above things in mind I'd be interested in peoples suggestions for a player that ticks as many boxes as possible.

Cheers

MC

Sansa clip+ & a different set of headphones - Bose SQ isn't as good as most think.

Agreed.

My clip+ and the sony V6 was pure fun for my ears.

my clip+ is 8gb +16gb card.

Agreed.

Cowon J3/Clip +

Fuze+ as well if you don't mind the annoyance of moving around the menu's.

Fuze, as I understand, has the same hardware as Clip+, doesn't it? Or is it Fuze+ that has the same hardware as Clip+ does?

clip+ and fuze + are new versions of the old clip and fuze. Id never tried the fuze's

If you don't have a certain size requirement I'd get the Cowon J3. Great sound quality, built up to 32GB and you can use cards if needed. You should get at least 20 hours of FLAC playback per charge with it.

^ Agreed.

Smooth UI, fast what more can you ask for.

The clip isn't what you'll want if you want an easy way to select from a large collection.  And if your files are all FLAC then not may know how to read ID3 info from FLAC files. the Cowon J3 is a bit hard to grasp at first since hitting the Music app doesn't take you to your files, but rather the now playing screen.  A big touchscreen is the easiest way to sort through a large selection though.

^ Long time no see 4d

I agree somewhat, but you can just hit browser and go right to files.

Don't forget about the Browser app, which does take you right to the music selection.
