GS Solo vs LD MK V (Price/Performance) Amp for HD650

Hey guys I'm as new as you can be when it comes to headphone amps and the like so please don't crucify me. I've done quite a bit of research and have come to the conclusion that I want a solid state amp for my hd650s.

The 2 that I have seen a lot are the Graham Slee Solo and the Little Dot mk v. In a couple threads it seems to be a sure thing that the solo is the superior amp but what I wanted to know was how they both compare based on price/performance. Are the solos worth the extra £100? Are there any other choices within this price range with comparable performance that I have overlooked? £360 or so is the upper limit I am willing to pay as I also need a DAC.

I'm a student so I really want to get the best bang for my buck atm. Any input would be very much appreciated.

One thing to consider is customer support. The amp you buy should have a local dealer network to avoid having to ship the unit at your cost across the pond.

Thanks for the reply. That is a very valid point that I didn't really consider tbh. Taking that into account the Solo has the MK V beat.

If anybody can still see this I was wondering if anybody knows where I can demo the GS Solo in London. I'm also not going to get the PSU1 at the moment. Is that a mistake?

List of UK distributors for Graham Slee: http://www.gspaudio.co.uk/shopping/dealers.htm#United%20Kingdom

Among the list you would find Hi-Audio, which has shops in London: http://www.hiaudio.co.uk/dealUK.htm#London

Hope this helps. Also, I wonder if you would take the opportunity to try both the Graham Slee Novo (their entry level) and the Solo SRGII. Please PM me with your impressions as I am thinking of upgrading from the Novo.

I don't know the extent to which PSU1 will bring out the full capabilities of Graham Slee headphone amps though. I would be concerned if the PSU1 is required for any Graham Slee amp to reach its advertised power output.

Great man thanks a lot. I found that first list but not the 2nd and guess what one of those shops is literally a 10 minute walk from my place (How come I've never seen it???).

The SRGII was the one I was looking at and I will try out the Novo as well and see what the difference is and try to help you out. Thanks again.

I use the Solo with my HD650's, They sound great and the Amp itself seems to power HD800's well also mines the SRG, They need a decent Dac though i'm just using a E7 with a line out for now, I'm saving my pennys for a nice Dac in the future.

Ya I made sure I bought a DAC as well (Got the Dacmagic) so the source hopefully wouldn't be the limiting factor. Thanks for the input.
