Planing on making some cables. Had a couple of questions:

1:

I like the "braid" under the heat-shrink used. Any idea what it is and how I can do it?

2: What are the pieces used to make the Y in the cable?

3: What is a good source for the sennheiser HD555 side plug?

Thanks!

To answer your first question, one form of cable braid which looks similar to that in your picture is 'techflex'. It's commonly available as it's often used for cable management by PC modders, etc.

Thanks for the help! I have plenty of techflex. I was asking about the way the wires are braided under heat shrink

Oops, sorry! You probably know about this also, but I've found you can get a pretty uniform and tight cable braid using a drill. Simply clamp the two cables down at one end and then secure the other ends into the drill bit holder. Depending on the length, all that's required is a quick squeeze of the trigger on low speed setting.

I usually take a pair of pliers and count the turns, for a 1' length, 25 turns is sufficient, then I set it in place with heat from a heatgun (since merely twisting it will not get stranded wire to stay in place). Lastly, heatshrink over the top.

Good tip RE heating the wire to set the shape, I think that's the step I've been missing!
