Best sound card to replace x-fi to go with a HeadRoom Amp

Hi heads,

I currently have an older x-fi Fatality.  I use the toslink out to get sound to my HeadRoom Desktop Amp with a built-in DAC.

I got Sennheiser 650s hooked into the amp via Zu audio cable.

I want to get a new soundcard that supports both 5.1 or 7.1 speakers, a mic, as well as optical OUT.

A lot of the higher end Asus and X-Fi cards have a lot of bells, whistles, built in headphone amps, etc.

My questions are as follows:

1. For my headphone listening with my setup, do any of these features matter since i am going optical out and using the DAC on my HeadRoom amp?  It seems like a waste to get these cards since i am leveraging my own amp.

2. What is the most important feature when looking for a sound card when considering my desktop amp with desktop dac?

3. Any recomendations on what sound card should i get?

Thanks in advance
