For Sale:
Sennheiser HD 580 headphones, Broken headband...everything else in great condition.

Will Ship To: CONUS

There is a story behind these beauties. Originally listed them as an ebay auction (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&_trksid=p4340.l2557&rt=nc&nma=true&item=190535480179&si=W25Z8ToYVVR02mWJOapSwzsid%252BI%253D&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMESOX%3AIT#ht_500wt_951)

I shipped these out promptly after buyer made his payment, and was careful to bubble wrap it nice and secure. 5 days later the seller contacts me saying that the headband was broken UPON ARRIVAL, and that he wanted a refund. My auction clearly stated that the sale was final. Anyhow, he threatened to file a complaint, and I did not want to go through the hassle of paypal blocking my funds (paypal can be brutal to the seller...buyer is always right). So I gave him a full refund. My guess is that this individual was probably overstretching the headband and it snapped. Senn headbands are known to be on the sensitive side. He probably knew that he could get away with it. Again, this is just an assumption...

so here we are with an otherwise great condition, fully functional HD580. I did some research and called sennheiser. The headband costs $53 shipped. I wanted to run these by head-fi to see what kind of offers I can get before making a decision to repair them myself.

That stinks. I would repair with new headband and keep em.

I would say around $125 ish as is.... Considering headband is $53.

how hard would a repair be? like a few screws or is it like open heart surgery?

That sucks man. I just had that guy buy my pair of HD 580's and I packaged that thing like fort knox so I'm curious as to whether he'd try the same thing twice.

good luck. Hope you have a nice, clean sale with no hassles. He did complain about the packaging, which was shocking to me. If anything, it was overpackaged, in an oversized box.

Thanks. I'll update if anything goes weird. I think in your case though I'd repair those maybe slap some HD600 grills on them. I mean at this point they have some history to them.

wow, that sucks. I'm a bit paranoid when it comes to selling to strangers.

I always take pics before sending off something relatively expensive; that way I can show them if they had doubts.  For all you know the guy could have swapped a broken pair for your good pair and complained to cover it up; or buyers remorse and intentionally damaged a good pair of cans. People are ruthless sometimes confused_face.gif

anyway, good luck with the sale man
