The default playback device should be right choosen and I have sometimes to even close foobar and reload the desired page..

Stopping the music and/or closing foobar will turn off wasapi. You will have to reload a page to get sound online (e.g. a youtube video you were loading while foobar was running).

even if i stop foobar and then go to youtube, no sound.

only if i change settings in "control panel>sound>hd spdif>properties" (windows 7) do i get sound.

from the "drop menu"

24 bit 192000 hz does not work online, but does on foobar.

24 bit   48000 hz works on both. (but i think foobar does not sound as good as above, could be me)

i am using windows drivers for my spdif output.

if i install the latest "soundmax" drivers i do not get an option to output 24bit!!

and again, it could be me, but it dont sound as good.

is it normal to have to switch settings like this?

is an alternative to wasapi, the answer?

I have had the same issue today when using Wasapi optical out.

Actually my settings in the shared mode are normally 44.1/16 all the time because of my music files..and that is why I dont have these problems

Maybe you can try the Asio driver.
