I am looking to get these to match with my ipod classic+ ath-ck10 combo. I honestly have no experience with amps or portable amps. It would be nice to hear some impressions on these from head-fi. They do seem to have a decent amount of positive feedback from kakaku.

Headphone brand amps are never a good idea.  Unless it's Stax wink.gif

that's a shame about headphone brand amps. This was the only portable amp I was considering because it basically doubles as a remote and would not make the ipod less portable. But I can't pay 140 for the thing if it adds nothing sonically.

The PHA31i is good but you should avoid paying USD140.  It sells in Japan for less than USD100 now I think. Re headphone brand amps, if you want something ultra portable it seems only Fiio and AT are making ipod/iphone-powered amps.  I really enjoy my PHA31i. The audio is considerably better across a range of headphones and the ipod remote control feature is useful too.

How would you compare it to the E1?  I have the E1 and E5, and I don't really like the E1 with my CK10's, the E5 sounds better to me.  But I'm curious about the AT line out amp because of the controls.
