Is the FS section in a rut? - Page 2

It's been worse lately, mostly the past one or two months. Before May I haven't had any trouble selling my gear, which I consider I generally price pretty fairly. The last two months have been really tough though, I get a lot of people who say they are committed to paying immediately, then once I give them my PayPal address they disappear. I can't count the number of times this has happened in the past month, it's quite infuriating.

I wonder if it'd be acceptable to post bad feedback in such a case.

If that were allowed, a lot of people would have a lot of bad feedback... I think even I've been guilty of it a couple times, generally when someone is too slow to respond and I buy someone else's item. Personally I wouldn't even give bad feedback to someone who has paid and before I ship it out, they back out. Things happen, people make bad decisions based on impulse buys, we're all human. It's frustrating, but part of the FS world.

Problem is that everyone has good feedback right now, I just don't know that it's an effective device at telling how reliable someone really is.

Last thing I sold on classifieds took literally months to sell. I didn't discount it beyond what I was happy to take, then just waited, and waited, and waited. Eventually it went for the asking price but I was tempted and refused a lot of offers below what I wanted to take for it on the way there. Needs a bit of patience.

As everyone's said - times are tough.

Nobody is secure of their jobs in the UK right now it seems, and finding a new job is so much more difficult (even getting an interview) than a couple of years back. I've never seen so many internships posted on jobs sites either. Looks like companies are milking the fact that unemployed people want to keep their CVs busy and getting as much free labour as they can.

I'm in a seconded role at my organisation and meanwhile my permanent job got made redundant, then I was "matched" into a much worse one so have until September to find a better one. Mind you, just how tough it is to find one makes me feel all the more lucky I at least have something. Would really hate to be unemployed right now.

It's the economy, sales are off everywhere. I've sold a few things in the FS this past month but all were less than $100. A few months back I bought a pair of much sough after phones for $300 less than the asking price was 3 years ago.

Is the FS forum in a rut?

No, it's in the HeadFi forums.

Which equates pretty closely, but doesn't quite meet the description of a rut...

A rut is a grave with the ends knocked out..!!!

Look at the bright side. If this is the reality of the times, cash is king. This is a good time to make a deal on any used equipment that you have been dreaming about. The situation, I feel works in both directions. Keep your price stable and don't move off it and wait if you are the seller, buy stuff for less if you can find it out there. Amazingly I have had really good luck making buys off Head-Fi members. Only one transaction seemed strange when the seller said that he changed his mind about selling his I-Pod after he told me he had no ID to cash a postal money order?lol Who does not take postal money orders?

From what I have seen is this market, it just takes time. It took me 8 months to sell a car out there, but I was able to get the price I wanted.
