Is the FS section in a rut?

I actually think the new systems manages classifieds quite well. But something happened to the FS section.

Suddenly (last 2-4 months), no matter how much you discount a lot of gear, no one buys, and they keep sending you PMs with 'omg can haz itam at 1/2 the listed price w shipping to zanzibar incl ppal' (it's kinda already at 1/2 price biggrin.gif ).
Baaack when I was young (err, even 6-12 months ago, you used to post things, and they used to fly 'off the FS section' biggrin.gif )

I know being in Aus doesn't help, but am I imagining things biggrin.gif ?
(I jokingly blame the JFC and Australia getting a gov-t that does the opposite of what it promises making buying head-fi related things a distant last priority)

The economy is not as good as it used to be so many are not buying as much or being pickier. Good luck with your sales.

That's right.  With gas prices up there at $4.00 per gallon and the recent 3%+ food price increase in one month alone, these necessities have cut into the disposable incomes of most families.  This has led to people cutting back on those extras.

Hmmm... My empty wallet seems to indicate it's working all too well! smily_headphones1.gif

Kidding aside I feel like I've gotten some solid deals through the FS forum and I feel more confident purchasing from established community members here instead of flea bay.

+1 on what everyone else said.  Less money, more uncertainty.  On the plus side, my wife and I were trying to make a room more presentable, and I went through a box of her old headphones - to find a pair of Sennheiser 36's.  No idea if they're any good, but I'll be listening...

Well, the "established" community thanks you for coming here to make your purchase selections first.  The last pair of Grado SR-225i headphones that I sold on FleaBay resulted in $19.00 of FleaBay fees, plus the seller lived all the way on the other coast, which meant my "fixed" price of shipping at $10.00 was about $5.50 too short.  $24.50 lost to Fleabay and the shipping fiasco.  Personally, I'd rather list something for sale here on the forum and sell it for $25.00 less than let FleaBay profit off of me.  I guess one gets wiser over time.

With that being said, I'm heading over to the F.S. section to drop another $20 off the asking price of my Grado 325s.  wink.gif

People realize that they need to eat: They sell off some gear.

People realize that they need to eat: They don't buy any gear.

About it.

Times are tough. Markets for luxury gear don't do well when people allocate for the basics and start saving.

It'll be a few years yet before the market recovers. Possibly longer. frown.gif

I've heard that there's 3 million extra empty houses in the nation's inventory at the moment.  This puts it somewhere at 14 million empty homes vs. the typical 11 million.  They said with this extra 3 million homes, a full housing recovery wouldn't be possible for 13 years.  Yikes!

Well thank's to working all my life, SS is willing to supply me with about 200 dollars of purchasing capital a month that I fully expect to take advantage of.  A small jump start to Obama economics that if every one was willing to make, we could get this thing going a lot quicker than Harry Seldon's 1000 year chaos before a New World Order comes about.

Warning:  swbf2cheater secrets ahead

I've never had any problems with Head Fi buying or selling.  In fact, Head Fi is a blessing to me, when I want something, it never takes more than a day or two to find someone willing to sell said item to me, and its rare for my ads to not sell within the same day or two.  One key thing to remember is to try to list your item late Thursday or early Friday morning, as most people get paid at the end of the week and will more than likely choose this time to start buying something.  Lately, I've noticed the for sale section dying out a bit.  It seems to have throttled back significantly compared the last few years.  I've never had anyone ask me to drop my price more than a few US dollars, nor have I had anyone insist I do anything out of the ordinary but I consider myself lucky.  If people are asking for half off or shipping to the moon, tell them to stick it in their ear :\

pun intended :)
