Help, I think i need a DAC!

Hello headfi'ers

 

My computer onboard sound sucks and I want to change that. My onboard audio chip is the VIA VT1708S. So now I want to buy a Dac to make my computersound better. But i have till some questions.

 

- Can I bypass my onboard audiochip?

- Will my soundquality increase dramatically

 

My motherboard doesn't have a coaxial output. So I think i'm stuck with the fiber output. I hard that fiber > usb . So that's the reason I want to buy a DAC with fiber input (unless you guys think i'm better of taking an usb amp.)

 

I will be using the DAC with my creative aurvana live headphones. Maximum budget for DAC is 150 euros

When using a digital output you will bypass you soundchip and the internal DAC..

The soundquality will increase by a good amount.. but I think that you have to look for better headphones also..

DAC with Toslink input or USB DAC. There are a lot out there. Nevertheless you will have to think about an amp also or a DAC/Amp combo. Personally I use the USB Thingee with my netbook right now in combination with an portable amp and I am satisified because it is really sufficient for me.

udac2 is gd enough, you can always add a better amp when need to @ later stage.

Since creative aurvana live less than 100 bucks, I do not see a point spending too much $ to pair with it.
It is always better to spend the extra $ on a better pair of headphone.

Actually I cannot comment or better want not comment to this because I dont own one personally. All I can say is that there is a majority in this forum which like the NuForce but also some who dont like it.

 

I ve just looked and saw that it has also an headphone output. So it will be maybe sth to try.

 

Another possible solution would be maybe the Fiio E7/E9 combo which is to be read every day in this forum :)

 

Last but not least dont forget to think about your headphones :)

 

And to sum up maybe it is worth to give them a try when ordering at amazon because there you can return it easily..

Normally an USB device is automatically installed by the OS and you only have to choose this device by your musicplayer.

 

Search for example for: Asio4all, Kernel streaming, WASAPI (native Windows)

 

Personally I use most of the time Foobar and there are for example the wasapi and Kernel streaming plugin.

 

 

It is not so good to replace your questions :) :)

 

 

 

There are german stores to use for example..

i know,srry, but i just saw on the official site how you had to install the dac. Btw is it a dac/amp combo? or is it just a dac?

It has a headphone output..so you can say it is a DAC/Amp combo, nevertheless I dont know bout the headphones out quality.

 

Dont take it as an offense but it would be fine to make some efforts on your own in terms of using Google whatever because I find that you will find a lot of information out there.

 

I may help as far as I can but only to questions which I can answer objectively :)
