My Pioneer RT-1020L reel to reel gave up the ghost - Back in business - Page 3

Hi Skylab, the tape was rubbing ever so slightly on the front edge.
The original units came with a spacer if you ever needed one.
They looked like this, and are impossible to find.
I'm thinking that the pro reels being much thicker will solve this problem that I have with the thinner reels.
Also, the 7" reels do not seem to have this problem.

Got it.  I have gone to using a 7" take-up reel since I mostly play pre-recorded reels which are all 7".  I leave the 10" reels on when the deck isn't in use since it looks so cool :)

BTW, the original plastic hubs worked just fine, it was the new darklab Hubs that seemed a little short.
I found this photo on the web. It looks like the original hub that I have had the spacer already added to the hub.

Just picked up this 7 inch AKAI take Up Reel on Ebay.

I think they are the best looking reels out there.

Those are SWEET.  I bought some Pioneer reels for my X-10R.  I know, Pioneer reels on a Teac?  But the rest of my vintage gear is Pioneer, and it's almost impossible to find metal Teac take-up reels...

They are amazing!!
