I auditioned the SRH-1840 straight out of the box, and was unsatisfied with the sound, so I decided to give them a period of break-in. Recent scientific studies have shown definite differences...

By color, you mean distortions right? The colorization could be good or bad depending on what the listener desires. I personally prefer wide sound stage and emphasis on vocals. I don't know how colorization works to explain all that. I have doubts that these caps could make the sound appear to have wide sound stage. I know virtual surround sound is done by phase delay, and maybe these huge caps may change the phase, and cause some effects.
Colorization is indeed a very subjective term that is tossed around a bit around here. One thing I noticed, I tried feeding capped LO of diymod to my low impedance friendly tube amp Elekit TU-882, and didn't like the sound. I also tried desktop optical > Dacmagic > cmoy. That didn't sound that great either. But, for some reason, diymod LO > 220uF caps LOD > CMOY > IEMs sounded wonderful. Same with Fuze, and I'm not a big fan of Fuze, but the 220uF Silmic 2 helps out somehow. I currently do not have the proper measuring tools to give a more scientific reasons. I know FR graph is not the whole truth to how sound is outputted, but atleast I can see what has change to the signal as the result of the Capacitors.

I gues, the reason why u don't like the Fuze is because it doesn't sound that much fun, its rather flat. The amp in it is not very powerful either. Put it together with the RE-ZEROs, i hate the sound. Colouration is when, there is a nett deviation (good or bad, the person dicides) from this characterstic sound that the Fuze+ZEROs combo is supposed to have. When its distorted, which happens with my BC + ceramic bypassed LOD, it is colouration. When it sounds good, as with ur Silmics, its colouration.
The LOD i have, is like better with my RE0s even. I have noticed the bass getting deeper, when moving up the capacitance value scale, though the farthest i went for was 470uf.
I don't like it with my Fuze>Vishay BC + some ceramic>Mini^3>ZEROs
But its better with the RE0s inplace of the ZEROs in the chain.
Conclusion: it has to do with Synergy in the chain. Not jus the LOD and Mini^3, but the whole combo has to sound good togethr, then i'd just like to go with the Wima films. The more transparent, the more control i have over how it would sound.
Until i don't get some silmics or nichicons, i won't say that i like Electrolytics in signal path. Also, the main reason my i bypassed the Ceramics (.1uf) with the electrolytics is that, when the Ceramics were put alone, the lower end was not there. When the Electrolytics alone wer put in, the sound was "very" mid focused with good lower end but crappy high end.
Put together, desparate attempt, doesn't sound very good to me, and distorts.
Regards

You know that passive device combos will change the frequency response. We went over a lot of that stuff on our wireless communication class. I'm gonna have to review some of that stuff. We can come up with interesting FR, with passive combos.

So i just recieved my Wimas yesterday, placed them on the Docks i ordered from Ridax, for my Sansa Fuze, and hell yeah, they sound coooooooool.....its like an upgrade too good... god i was dealing with crap when i was using the BC electrolytics....these are so clear, make the Setup sound tooooo good....the way i like it, effortless and detailed, clean ofcourse....bass because of the Mini^3 is tight and awesome, the 3D image because of the caps is impressive.....and these are 1uF 63V caps almost the size of 10uF BC electrolytics. and i hear the bass i didn't know existed.

thats odd, i would never link emphasized/forward mids with wide soundstage, quite the opposite
