What DSP functionality do I lose using the KX drivers? I want to be able to use my Audigy for gaming, do EAX and all the other stuff it is capable of fall under DSP, or do you refer to Dolby/DTS?

 

And a second question:

Is the digital out simply a passthrough of the sound without any Dolby/DTS/EAX features, or does it contain all the technologies my Audigy features? I know I can use the settings from Creative's driver software to enable/diable Dolby/DTS passthrough (i.e. if I want to use my reciever to decode it) but what about EAX?

I'm sorry, my brain cells occasionally go on sleeping without warning me beforehand rolleyes.gif

 

As of the current development state, EAX will no longer be available with kX drivers.

 

What exactly is more important to you? Daniel K's drivers and PAX drivers are more balanced drivers with full feature sets, while kX drivers are geared towards audio and audio alone, currently sacrificing gaming features for audio performance.

I want the EAX functionality, so no KX for me? What's the difference between Daniel K's drivers and the PAX drivers?

I think I found the answer to my question myself. Turns out the Creative forums are quite active and helpful. I found a guy with the same question:

By the way, DTS/Dolby Digital are both only functional for surround sound, aren't they? But I only use a stereo speaker system/headphones, so I really don't benefit from those features on my Audigy 2 ZS? Or does stereo sound better if I choose the DTS/Dolby sound on a DVD (or other source) in stead of the stereo audio track?

kX=no EAX

 

In theory, drivers made by Daniel K and Robert McClelland are very similar, with some reliability differences, as well as having additional software digital encoders. But again, try for yourself and see what you like the most, between Daniel K and PAX.

The PAX drivers make my Audigy sound quite amazing through my low-fi computer system! I'm impressed and happy.

 

What are the differences between the drivers from Daniel K and the PAX drivers? I know they can sound a bit different, but what are other differences, i.e. in software or EAX. Do any of these drivers enable EAX for Windows 7, or Alchemy for Audigy?
