Help with a new DAC

Thread Starter

I'm looking for a new DAC to marry with my Burson HA-160 and my AKG K702s and Beyer DT880(600)s.  It will be connected via USB from my desktop and then RCA out to the Burson.

I am currently using a uDac2 but am moving that to my work rig with my Shure 840s.  I was relatively happy with the sound of the uDac2 and the Burson – AKG/Beyer combo.

I have some 96/24 tracks.

The rig is mid-fi so I am looking for a comparable quality DAC without breaking the bank.  Basically a step up from the uDac2.

Any recommendations? Thanks for your help.

The Pop Pulse 1796 isn't at all bad at its price-point.  Do a net search or check for it at CryoParts.

You'll have to check the spec on the mkII.  I had the original, which only had 16-bit on the USB input, but 24/96 on coax or optical S/PDIF.

Found this site:

Lots of DACs listed under each category.

Any more recommendations?
