Sennheiser replacement cable

Long story short, the cable for my Sennheiser HD 558 doesn't really work any more. Since the headphones aren't that great, I really don't want to spend much money fixing it. With this in mind, I thought it would be better to just buy a replacement cable instead of buying a better cable.

My problem is that I don't know where to find these cables. Looking on the Sennheiser website, I don't really see anything.

That's the cable for an HD 555, so I was thinking that it might also be the same as the 558 cable since it's not listed. I'm not really sure about this, and while it's only $7 I'd rather not buy it if it won't work. Does anyone know if the cables for both these headphones are the same, or at least if the inputs on the headphones are the same?

Thanks

I'm pretty sure they're utterly different.  The 5x8 series uses a 3.5mm plug on the headphone don't they?  The 5x5 is a proprietary thing that you have to take the headphone apart to replace.

Yeah, I thought I remembered reading that they redesigned the new cables to be easier to remove or whatever. I just wanted to make sure by posting here.

Still, I don't see any sort of 558/598 headphone cables anywhere on the parts website. I live in Canada though, so I can't order online anyway. Since I would need to call them to order, I could always just ask if they carried any replacement cables for a 558.

If anyone has more info it would be great though

I'm pretty sure that if you can find a replacement cable for another headphone that is terminated in a 3.5mm TRS plug it should work...that's what it's terminated in, isn't it?

But yeah, the 595 cable is terminated with this weird three-pronged thing.  Definitely wouldn't fit.

You need a cable with a 2.5mm plug on the headphone end.

Well I've gotten two answers so far, so some clarification on what exactly the size is would be nice. I'm guessing 2.5mm, since I just took the cable out of the headphones and put it in my laptop's headphone jack (just to see the size) and it was jiggling around. So I'm guessing it's not 3.5mm, but again, I just want to be sure :)

Would the quality of the replacement cable really matter? I mean, it's $7 for a new one from Sennheiser, so I don't think it's a very high quality cable to begin with. Could I just go to Radio Shack and pick up some random cable and have no real loss in quality?

Radioshack? lol

If they even have the right thing, though they do sell a DIY 2.5mm plug with severely oversized casing that would make it impossible for you to insert the plug into your headphones if you use its casing.

I would just buy the Senn replacement and keep it simple.

I'd obviously love to buy a replacement from Sennheiser directly, but I don't see anything. The only 558/598 related stuff I see on their parts website is a replacement stand for the 598. Are there any other Sennheiser models with a similar cable design to the 558? It's pretty hard to buy an official replacement when they don't appear to carry any. I'll call them today or tomorrow and ask if it's just not listed on their website.

That's the only thing I found that fits the need, but I'd much rather buy it from Sennheiser directly, since it looks like it will probably be cheaper and won't need to be shipped from the UK. Plus I'm not 100% sure that's even what I need.

You can't call them?
