Office rig with ATH-W1000X: any suggestion for source and amp?

post #1 of 3
Thread Starter

Hi everyone,

I just purchased a pair of Audio Technica ATH-W1000X as the first component of my office rig.

In the beginning I was considering to buy a DAP like hifiman 801 or Hiaudiosound Studio V.

Now I realize that with the same money (800 USD) I could buy some second-hand hi-end desktop equipment.

What in your opinion could be a good source and amp to match with the ATH-W1000X?

I have a huge drawer, do you suggest me to set the equipment there permanently or it is better to have it on my desk during the day?

Thanks a lot.

Bye.

PS These are my tastes:

I listen to any music genre;

I am a great estimator of STAX tube amps and Meridian CD-players.

Since you are asking for opinions. I like my W1000X paired with the Anedio D1 DAC. The internal headphone amp is just fine with these efficient low ATH low impedance headphones. You can take a look at the Anedio thread from project86 to get some impressions. Although it's over your budget I'd seriously consider it. A good DAC can last long.

Just make sure you place the equipment on a steady surface in a normal environment.

Eastern Electric Minimax or REGA DAC is at your price range. My guess is that they might be a good match with your system.
