The Input Capacitors thread

Thread Starter

I just made an LOD for my Sansa Fuze V2 out of 100uF Electrolytic Vishay caps and .1uF ceramic caps for my rig.

before diciding on the above caps, i experimented a lot with the caps available at the moment, and there were so many obvious/observable differences in sound. that leads me here, to make a thread about input caps that people use, and think sound the best. post ur impressions please.

to start,

the above input caps that i used, sounded best in the Lot i had, but they soften the Upper frequencies a little bit on my setup.

i dont like that. the lower end, is more visible on my RE0s now, hearing punches i never knew i could hear with my RE0s.

my setup is,

Sansa Fuze V2>LOD>Mini^3>RE0s

I don't keep up much with portable devices and whatnot, so forgive me is this seems like a stupid question.

But what's the purpose of the input cap? Does the Sansa Fuze have a DC offset on its output or something?

The Sansa Fuze V2 has DC Offset ~1.4v on its line out. So thats why the input caps.

This LOD i have with the non audio 16V 100uF Vishay BC and .1uF ceramics distorts at high volumes. So cheap non audio caps is a no no.

I like NOS PLIO K75-10 bypassed with NOS Teflon T-3 caps. (usual size is 2.2uf 250V for the PLIO and .1 or .22uf  600V for the T-3 Teflon). The only drawback to these caps are the physical sizes of them...SQ wise they are superb ( as long as you use the combination ) with no drawbacks I can find (from long term testing in a tube preamp as I/O coupling caps as well as the same combo , slightly different value, used in a big dual mono EL34 amp in another location of the circuit).

PLIO is short for paper in lavsan and oil (IIRC).
