i was on another thread when we were talking about weather from where we were from and it got me thinking about making a thread with pictures of things from where your from. like city surroundings or skylines or local landmarks and environment/parks etc.

 

well as you can read i am from kelowna bc canada. kelowna is a medium sized city with about 185 000 people. we are situated on a lake known as okanagan lake, our environment is fairly dry with about 11 inches of rain a year. and we are known to be a part of the only desert in canada. osoyoos which is south of us is the only true desert but the climate and weather is similar throughout the valley. we are semi desert in kelowna. we are a tourist town and in the summer our population tends to double. the closest major city to us is vancouver bc canada.

so what about you guys? all pictures are welcome as long as they are not personal pictures of your house (inside or out) but i would think that would be applied on the internet.

cool pics. i hope this thread becomes a hit, it would be great to see what the places people live look like.

 

you posted a pic from a satellite so i will do that to.

 

it's a little old but its the best i could find.

Old Train Station in Detroit....I remember when it was actually Open and people caught Trains there, in fact I caught a Train at this very station to NewYork.  Inside was absolutely beautiful with marble, huge benches, restaurants, shopping and offices in the towers.  Right near the old Tiger Stadium with brick streets.

I dunno bcasey, the water in that lake behind the Kelowna Sails looks powerfully wet to me.

It's pretty nice here, but it's cold pretty much year-round. Also, the traffic in the south (where I am) is lame.

 

The sales tax being only 5% is cool though.

ya we have that stupid 12% hst. but the weather here is nice. have you ever been to the bc interrior or vancouver?

Nah, only other place in Canada I've ever been is Toronto. A good (internet) friend of mine lives in Vancouver, I kind of want to go there some time.

ya i have only been to vancouver and seattle. i want to go to calgary some day though. the weather turns me off though.

You guys should come down to Boca Raton during the winter, its pretty nice. I actually don't like my city, its filled with snowbirds and seasonal people. I know no one there besides my personal friends well, and its kind of uncomfortable talking or getting to know someone down the street. People keep to themselves, and (no offense Northerners, in which I don't mean Canadians) but your driving scares the living daylights out of me. Also, this is sort of the worst time of the year right now, its always 90 degrees with 100% humidity, but the winters are nice (but short). I never do any watersports so it sort of ruins the purpose of living here. I do go to Utah in the winters for skiing, and in the summers for mountainbiking, and its just such a different atmosphere. I love it.

 

Canada is beautiful in the summer too. I have quite the family up there in Ottawa and such. Its probably my 2nd favorite summer trip location. cool.gif Just a little far up there. Actually I'm a citizen of Canada so its pretty easy to visit when I feel like it (he he). I went to Panorama a few times for skiing, but its just such a long trip. Same with Whistler.

I have no clue where that is, but that mansion looks exactly like the mansion I visited a loooong time ago up in North Carolina. I believe at the time we were in Shelby, but I think that the mansion might have been in the countryside.

 

EDIT: Oh I know! That's the Biltmore Mansion! (thankyou Google for jogging my memory) Haha my trip to Shelby (edit: Asheville...?) feels like a billion years ago. I remember staying at a hotel and it was a cloudy/foggy day, pretty sick looking. I forgot why I went there though... I think it was some family get-together...

EDIT #2: WAIT WAIT WAIT I think I was in Asheville. That would make more sense. Please excuse me, I was probably 5 or 6 when we went there. I know I did visit Shelby, but that might've been another trip. Gah... I have family around Greenville in South Carolina so I get a little confused on all the times that I've been up there.
