I used this amp mainly with a pair of HD 650 and it does what it is supposed to do: it has way more power than I need, it's quiet and it makes everything sound in its place. I have never heard...

I bought these headphones just for the fun of it, to see how they sound with all that apparently amazing bass. Well, for $50, they're ok sounding for extra bass headphones. They do have a...

Bought it some time ago, based on user reviews. Straight out of the box it seemed huge, especially compared to my old Cowon D2. Also, sound was awful. Granted, I don't have large hi-fi cans, only...

post #17 of 665/30/11 at 6:22amYeah, this has happened more than a few times.
Quote:When people see my gear rack in my room that can't even hold all my amps even though
it has 6 big shelves.
The other day I busted out my soldering iron at 4am to mod a pair of older DT990s, with 80ohm drivers :D well, my girl was like WTF?! I am not sure she really understood my obsession until that was going on while I was MAKING CASSETTE tapes for my walkman... I wanted to carry my system's beloved signature around with me, something easy to do with some good tape recording.
OH! I bought her a purple sansa clip+ and rockboxed it before I gave it to her, then took her out for some IEMs... it was funny, she could not believe the sound you could get for the money when the ones that "looked like they sounded good" cost 5X the price and were aweful.
I also was caught fitting koss "titanium" drivers into my old sr325 shells. I have the 325is, but always wanted to do something with the older barrels. The drivers were a perfect match, and the phones actually sound downright decent. Kossados! Gradoss! I don't know, but hey, waste not want not, right?
She thought it was "cute". :)

When I first saw a picture of "Covert Affairs" (tv series), I noticed the pair of Grados the actor was wearing before noticing Piper Perabo besides him.

other time i was listening to my friends sony nc500d and i made comments like it sounded muddy, the mid range was recessed. and the highs were rather bland. he looked at me like wtf. cause he as a musician still didn't know what i meant, facepalm. now he knows me as the headphone expert lol.

Having my desktop background at work set to a picture of glowing tubes in a dark room, and having to explain what they are, why they are nice sounding, and having them ask with a thousand mile stare: "...what do you mean? High end audio? Why?..."
Also caught myself DESPERATELY trying to explain bitrates and file formats other than MP3 to an 19 year old girl in an office, as simple as possible even a 6 year old would get it.FINALLY after realizing what I was dealing with I said "it just sounds better" she said :"why would I want that?" as she ate spoonfulls of hydrogenated hazelnut spread and hydrogenated peanut butter from their respective jars. No joke. I tried telling her about that hydrogenated crap too....
Every time I bring up the thing about headphones, that they all sound different and their driver principles, the looks I get are bad enough.
What really needs to happen is we need to get mobile headphone re-education listening vans driving around so they can hear it firsthand.
these are the future of the human race???????

Talking to a guy in the train who used the 'Metallica Skull thingy headphones' and he confessed he did not like them: too much bass and he was into Classical music. I suggested him to test the headphones out of various receivers and amplifiers, carefully though. He was dressed as a Gothic Metal lover and I felt sorry I could not give him one of my better headphones.
The thought of those taped up plasticky headphones on someone's head still makes me cringe...

post #25 of 665/31/11 at 5:40amTrying to explain to someone why I had different headphones for different music. Then I realised how pointless what I was explaining was, sold most of my stuff, and bought a single set of cans that do it all.
Now, I get the same look when I tell them that the single set I have now are worth more than all the cans I sold to get them.

I think that's what she said about your... nevermind. :P
post #29 of 665/31/11 at 9:09am"What are you doing?"
"You scared me...Umm.... pulling out stuffing from the speaker"
"what...why.... are you in your underwear?"
"I couldn't sleep"
Me getting busted at 3am by my girlfriend (at the time) in my underwear with a diy-speaker pulled apart and acoustic stuffing almost every where.
We had a pretty good laugh the next day. She said from the look of shock and surprise on my face it looked like she had busted me watching midget porn.I had been screwing around with the speaker for weeks trying to get the dampening right. I couldn't sleep very well, and went to go listen to some music forwhatever reason I decided that I had to make a change right then.

Me? A persistent cringing whenever someone uses one of those Ipod / Iphone docks to drive their entire system and using the onboard DAC, I'm mostly fine with it it's someone's home and they're the casual listener type. But I've even had this happen is a shop that sells top of the line Martin Logans and Ultrasones when demoing stuff.... what are they thinking....
