Best Headphones without amps

Thread Starter

I'm new to all of this and was wondering why do you need a headphone amp. Those seem complicated and i just want something thats awesome, under $100 and great sounding without an amp. I listen to alot of bass thumping music like techno, happy hardcore, hardstyle, trance, and some rap/pop. i like to listen to music with hours on end. I like to have a detachable cable. and comfort is a big deal. Please help me out.

Thanks

mark

PS does the XB700's, Xone XD-40's, Shure 440's, Shure 550's require amps? please please help me out

You can't go wrong with the Sennheiser HD485's imho.[that's what I use]......I don't use an amp and they sound quite good that way.

I would also like to know the best headphones without amps for use with an iPhone/iPod as the primary source. ITgm4wrk, what is your primary source for playing music with these headphones.

Since it appears that you like a good amount of bass you would likely enjoy the Sony XB700s. No detachable cord but great sound for electronic, hiphop etc music. They are also extremely comfortable. They cost about $80 on Amazon.

Also most headphones don't absolutely "require" amps its just you need one to bring the best out of them. The Sony XB700 work fine out of a computer or ipod.
