Problems with ATH7 electret headphones

Thread Starter

Welcome, recently I've bought on occasion electret headphones ATH7 in very good visual condition. Unfortunately after few tests I'm sure that left driver is a little bit quieter than the right one. Electrostatic elements can go bad after a few decades, or at least that is my understanding right now. I hope that I'm wrong so there is any chance to fix it in quite easy way or simply I should send them back without any fix attempts? It's a pity because ATH7 sounds really good for me.

Thanks for help.

Try working the wires, especially at the gusset where the wire enters the left cup. If you can affect the volume when you move things around, it's more likely to be a loose connection rather than a worn-out electret driver. That's good news, because then you (or somebody you trust) can get it working again just by fixing a join or replacing some wire.
