Hey there! I am lookin to purchase my first pair of audiophile headphones. I am a huge noob, but I love music and figured I should invest in a good pair of cans. I like folk, folk rock, electropop, electronic rock, alternative rock, some ambient stuff and the occasional house remixes. These are some of the bands/artists I listen to on a regular basis.

Do you intend to use these while travelling/in public? Or do you want them mainly for home use? If you're going to be using them outside the house, you'll need a pair of closed cans, to reduce sound leakage. If you want them for using mainly at home, you won't need to worry about sound leakage, and can get some open cans. For closed headphones, you could look at the Shure 940s, Beyerdynamic DT 770, Audio Technica ATH-AD900, or some Ultrasones. For open headphones, I've heard the Sennheiser 598's are great. Do some research into each ones, and others you find, and see which one would be right for you.

Closed Headphones like Bose QC15, Monster HD Solo, ESW9, Phiaton PS500 and open headphones SR325i, FA-002, HFI2400, HD598, HD600.
